The inspiration behind this writing came when engaging prospects that shuddered at the thought of defining goals and measuring activity/achievement against them. I get it – we often fear being held accountable. This especially rings true if you formally write out the objectives, and even worse if you inform others about those goals and objectives.

"Oh no - now I have to do it!" ....Well isn’t that the point?

You do want to achieve, you do want to improve, so let’s get to projecting to the Universe what our intentions are. You never know, the Universe may conspire in your favor to achieve those goals. At the least you make it more concrete to yourself and your team. Now let’s make the old cliché palatable, “What gets measured gets done”.

Let me introduce you to a Six Sigma methodology called D.M.A.I.C.

Just know that if you hear “Six Sigma”, it is rooted in data driven quality strategies. But fret not as the concept can easily apply to any performance improvement project whether financial, production, marketing or other initiatives. And don’t fear that a PhD in mathematics is required. If you can do the simple calculations {Good Kids / Total Kids = % Happy Parents}, then you are well on your way to making data driven decisions.

The purpose is to use a methodology to make your goals achievable… so it’s time to get confident you have the tools! Let me make this clear - You can make massive improvements by simply getting 15% better in multiple areas. HINT: Compound effects make it a heck of a lot more than 15%!

Compound effects of improvements to your sales conversion pipeline.

That’s 75% improvement ($52,000 vs $30,000) just by committing to 15% improvement in 4 key areas!

You’ve defined what you want to improve, created a way to measure it, committed to ongoing analysis, and dedicated to continuous improvement on the actions that will really get you there.

That’s it… you are now foundationally sound on the world class performance improvement model called DMAIC. So, what are the top 3-5 objectives you want to focus on that will drive real improvement in your business / life? I’m sure you can get 75% improvement just by measuring it and making yourself accountable to it!
